African blackwood is not an ebony, rather its a member of the rosewood family, Dalbergia Melanoxylon. With all the benefits that entails. It works very well, is not super prone to cracking and is, overall, an excellent handle material. I recently received a very nice shipment of African blackwood, most of the pieces are about 1.5 x 1.5 x 6, some bigger some just a touch below. All excellent quality.
