Stabilized Birdseye Maple

Birdseye Maple: Acer saccharum: Also called Sugar maple, Rock maple or Hard maple, this is one of the classic dense american hardwoods. About 1 tree in 100 will show birdseye figure, and of those about 5% are high grade, and this is the top of that grade. Normally i dont stock domestic hardwoods, but the figure in this maple was too good to pass up. These pieces are stabilized by K&G.

Fun fact, there is ancetoal evidence that birdseye maple needs dense, already standing forest to form. Wood cutters ive worked with tell me that areas of partially cleared land dont produce nearly as much birdseye lumber, while maples growing in dense, standing woods are much more likely to have the figure.
